Visit to Elliot’s Hill Wind Farm
October 22nd, 2007
Trevor Finlay and Gabine Fokkens from Vision Asset Finance, together with representative from other companies involved in the renewable energy sector gathered in the Highways Hotel in Larne on 18 October for a network lunch and seminar organised by InvestNI and B9 Energy.
The B9 Energy Group is a leading provider of services to owners and developers of renewable resources for energy. Mr. David Surplus gave an introduction to B9, its services and ongoing projects. B9 focuses on developing environmentally friendly technologies and has commercial interests in wind, biomass, wave and tidal projects. B9 currently operate and maintain 569 wind turbines (80MW approx) at 38 wind farms throughout the UK, Ireland, Canada and the USA.
Mr. Robert Brennan then explained in detail the plans for B9 Organic Energy to process large volumes of Irelands waste creating energy from the methane gas generated by the process.
After a quick visit to B9 offices, where renewable resources including wind, photo voltaic, CHP, under floor heating have been integrated to create a Carbon Neutral office building, the day ended with a visit to Elliot’s Hill wind farm near Ballyclare.
Established in 1994, Elliot’s Hill was amongst the first wind farms to be operated and maintained by B9, and is currently undergoing expansion as more grid capacity has become available.
